US Congress wants to allow encouraging denunciations of election interference

Reports of foreign citizens who interfere in the US election require the promotion and consolidation of the relevant norm in US federal law, the press service of the US House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee said on July 9. As committee chairman Eliot Engel (Democrat from the state of New York) explained, the initiative, if approved, will be implemented as part of the current program of the US Department of State "Remuneration for Helping Justice." To pay a reward to any person who provides information that makes it possible to establish the identity or whereabouts of a foreign citizen who was knowingly involved or participating in interference in foreign elections, the committee said in a commentary. At the same time, Engel himself notes that by adopting the corresponding bill, Congress will take care of protecting democracy in the United States.
