Most Japanese want to work after retirement - Kyodo

In Japan, 64% of people are ready to work after retirement mainly due to financial problems, an online survey conducted in August by Nippon Life Insurance showed. The survey involved 7,543 people. 38.7% of them said they wanted to continue working in their current job after retirement, and 25.3% said they wanted to work, but elsewhere. Currently, company executives in Japan do not have the right to fire people of pre-retirement age up to 65 years if they want to work. Since April 2021, according to the Japanese government, company executives will not be able to fire employees until the age of 70. This measure is related to the acute shortage of labour in the country caused by the ageing of the population.
