The euro exceeded the mark of 91 rubles, according to the Moscow Exchange. By 17.06 Moscow time, the European currency rose to 91.01 rubles. This happened for the first time since February 2016. The dollar, in turn, exceeded 78.2 rubles - for the first time since May 2015. Official data also show that in February 2018 the euro is worth 81.9 rubles. The US dollar has risen for the first time since November 2017, reaching its record-high figure of 77.79 rubles. Development in the past two months is tied to the strengthening of the dollar in comparison with other currencies. The Russian National Bank increased the volume of intervention in the foreign exchange market and raised interest rates twice in 2017 to defend the national currency, and allowed the ruble to float. On December 6, the central bank released its monthly report for November, the main achievement of which was the rise in the share of the ruble in the foreign exchange market, but the year-on-year growth in the currency’s share fell. The ruble accounted for 45.2 percent of the financial instruments denominated in foreign currency, up from 43.3 percent in November 2016.
